Scuba diving certification questions

If you are serious about scuba diving, then becoming certified is a must, by becoming certified you will be able to rent or purchase equipment used for diving, get refills for your tanks and the certificate never expires.

Finding a scuba diving course however can sometimes be a daunting task with many companies offering courses, finding one that is reliable and has a good track record can seem hard but this task can be made easier by asking just a few simple questions before choosing which one to go with. There are a number of different associations a company can be with but the one which is known worldwide is the PADI association.

Questions you should consider asking

* How long does the course last? - There should be no set time for the course as the course is dependant on how quick you learn, you will only move onto the next phases once you have successfully completed one part. The company may give an estimated time for course completion based on an average but this should only be an estimate to give you an idea.

* How much does the course cost? -
Any companies offering prices that are extremely low will very often include several hidden charges that aren't included in the price of the course. You could well end up paying a lot more for your course by choosing what looks to be a bargain, you might be better off taking a course that while appearing to cost a lot more is all inclusive of any materials and equipment that you need.

* Are references made available from past students? -
Most reputable companies will be able to provide you with e-mail or phone numbers from students who have successfully become qualified recently through the company. You should be wary of companies that are reluctant to offer references or companies who provide old written references.

* What qualifications does the instructor or company have? - Excellent instructors and companies will have an extensive resume of experience in teaching scuba diving, you should always try to find a company that has been teaching for at least a year and who has certified at least 30 people.

* Is the instructor certified in PRC and first aid? - The PADI instructor should have completed the rescue diver certification course and a current CPR/first aid certificate should be held.

* Will students and instructors be using similar equipment during training? - If both the instructor and the student are using the same equipment learning is often easier.
